LOUISVILLE, Ky.—Five University of Southern Indiana women's basketball players fouled out as the Screaming Eagles fell to Bellarmine University, 83-77, Thursday evening at Knight's Hall.

USI (10-6, 2-3 GLVC), which dressed just 10 players, committed 32 fouls and sent the Knights to the free throw line 47 times. Bellarmine (7-5, 3-1 GLVC) connected on 40 of those free throws as it snapped USI's four-game winning streak.

The Eagles, which were 8-of-12 from the charity stripe, countered with some timely three-point shooting. Junior guard Katie Thiesenhusen (Muskego, Wisconsin) was 5-of-7 from behind the arc and 9-of-14 from the field to lead the Eagles with a career and game-high 24 points. Theisenhusen also had eight rebounds, but the Eagles were out-rebounded as a team, 38-28.

USI also got 18 points as well as a career and game-high eight assists from freshman guard Keisha Collins (South Holland, Illinois). Collins nailed down three of USI's nine long-range buckets, including one that got the Eagles to within three points with just over a minute to play in the game.

As a team, USI shot 50 percent from the field, marking just the second time in 37 games under Head Coach Rick Stein that the Eagles have shot 50 percent or better and wound up on the losing end.

The Eagles, which are 0-6 this season when trailing at the half, used a 10-0 run in the first half to grab a brief advantage. USI, however, could not make up for a 21-17 disadvantage on the boards or a 16-3 deficit in free throw shooting as it went into the break trailing 35-33.

USI held a slim one-point lead with 11:29 to play in the second half, but could not hold the lead as the Knights bounced back and built their lead to as many as eight points. The Eagles, once again, answered using a pair of three-pointers and a lay up by Theisenhusen to narrow the deficit to 72-70 with three minutes to play. That was as close as the Eagles would get, though, as Bellarmine connected on 11-of-12 free throws from that point to notch its third victory of the conference season.

Junior forward Ashley Elmore scored 17 points, 13 of which came from the free throw line, to lead Belarmine. She also had seven rebounds to aid the Knights on the glass.

USI also got 16 points from sophomore forward Jasmine Baines (Jeffersonville, Indiana), who fouled out after 19 minutes of action.

The Eagles return to action Saturday at noon (CST) when they travel to Highland Heights, Kentucky, to take on Northern Kentucky University. The Norse (9-3, 3-2 GLVC) defeated Kentucky Wesleyan College, 62-47, Thursday evening in Highland Heights.
