EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The 8th-ranked University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team soared past 3rd-ranked Saint Joseph's College, 98-67, Saturday afternoon at the Physical Activities Center. USI raised its record to 21-2 overall and 10-2 in the GLVC, while Saint Joseph's falls to 18-2 overall, 8-2 GLVC.

After falling behind 8-0 to begin the game, the Screaming Eagles used a 19-3 run midway through the first half to take control of the game, 31-16. The Eagles would continue to increase the margin, extending it to as many as 17 points, 39-22, with 5:35 to play in the opening half.

The first half concluded with USI leading, 51-36, after senior guard David Bryant (Louisville, Kentucky) hit a pair free throws with no time left on the clock.

The second half was all USI as the Eagles maintained a double-digit lead for the entire half. The largest lead of the game, 33 points, came with 1:13 to play when freshman guard Alex Gravelle (Louisville, Kentucky) hit a long-range jumper to make the score 97-64. At the buzzer, USI settled for the 98-67 final.

USI senior forward Chris Thompson (Starke, Florida) posted his 11th double-double of the year by scoring 22 points and grabbing 12 rebounds to lead the Eagles. Thompson continued to have the hot hand, hitting seven-of-10 from the field and eight-of-nine from the charity stripe.

Eagles' senior guard Danny Gibson (Madison, Indiana) equaled Thompson with 22 points, one short of tying a career-best. Gibson was eight-of-12 from the field, including two three-point field goals, and four-of-five from the line.

Junior forward/center Keith Christmas (Gary, Indiana) followed Thompson and Gibson in the scoring column with 11 points, while junior forward Nick Brooks (Robinson, Illinois) and junior forward Marty Wise (New Orleans, Louisiana) dropped in 10 points each.

As a team, the Eagles shot 61.3 percent from the field (22-58) and 85.0 percent from the line (17-20). USI has shot over 60 percent or better in eight games this season.

USI will be idle until February 4 when it travel across the Ohio River to play Kentucky Wesleyan College at the Sportscenter in Owensboro, Kentucky. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
