KANSAS CITY, Mo.—Five players scored in double figures as the University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team defeated Rockhurst University, 77-63, Saturday afternoon.
USI (12-9, 4-6 GLVC) jumped out to a 19-7 lead in the first seven minutes of the game, but saw that lead shrink to four points as the Hawks reeled off a 15-7 run during the next six minutes of the contest.
Senior forward
Ashley Green (Otterbein, Indiana), however, scored six of her 12 first-half points from the free throw line to lead the Screaming Eagles on a 19-11 run that sent them into the intermission staked to a 45-33 halftime lead. Green finished the game with a team-high 14 points to go along with six rebounds. She was 7-of-8 from the charity stripe.
The Eagles shot 65.4 percent in the first half and 50 percent from three-point range.
In the second half, USI committed just eight turnovers while building its lead to as many as 18 points. The Eagles never saw their cushion slip below 10 in the second period.
Freshman guard
Keisha Collins (South Holland, Illinois) added 13 points and a game-high six assists, while not committing a turnover. Sophomore forward
Jasmine Baines (Jeffersonville, Indiana) scored 12 points before fouling out of the contest.
Junior guard
Katie Thiesenhusen (Muskego, Wisconsin) and junior forward
Michelle King (Columbus, Indiana) each chipped in 10 points. Thiesenhusen hauled in a team-high seven rebounds, while King went 5-of-5 from the field.
Senior guard/forward Jessica Rethman led Rockhurst (4-11, 1-8 GLVC) with a game-high 18 points, while senior forward Alisha Cade chipped in 11 points and a game-high 15 rebounds.
USI returns home to take on the University of Indianapolis Thursday at 5:15 p.m. The Eagles host Saint Joseph's College Saturday at 1 p.m. to close their short two-game homestand.
