EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team could not overcome a rough first half as it fell to Quincy University, 75-61, Thursday evening at the Physical Activities Center.

USI (10-8, 2-5 GLVC) shot just 25 percent in the opening period and was on the opposite end of a 16-3 run as it went into the break facing a 37-21 halftime deficit.

The Screaming Eagles raced out to a 5-0 lead on the strength of a pair of free throws and a three-pointer by senior forward Ashley Green (Otterbein, Indiana). Green scored USI's first seven points, all which came in the first five minutes of the game.

USI, however, scored just five points during the next 10 minutes as it found itself facing a double-digit deficit heading into the final media timeout of the first half.

The Eagles trailed by as many as 22 points in the second half, but a 15-6 run that lasted nearly eights minutes cut the deficit to 60-47 with 5:37 to play in the game. USI cut the lead to 12 with under a minute to play, but could not get any closer as the Lady Hawks extended their winning streak over the Eagles to five games.

Junior guard Katie Thiesenhusen (Muskego, Wisconsin) led the Eagles with 16 points while Green and sophomore forward Jasmine Baines (Jeffersonville, Indiana) each had 11 points in the loss. Freshman forward/center Jessica Grimaldo (Carmi, Illinois) chipped in 10 points.

Quincy (10-4, 4-2 GLVC) got a game-high 20 points out of junior guard Jenny Wisser and 13 points each out of junior forward Alex Wieser and senior forward Alicia Ordner.

USI hosts Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (7-7, 1-5 GLVC) Saturday at 1 p.m. The Cougars lost to Kentucky Wesleyan College, 77-72, Thursday evening in Owensboro, Kentucky.
