Eagles looking to stop two-game skid

EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team will try to stop a two-game losing streak Thursday when it hosts the two-time defending GLVC Champion Quincy University Lady Hawks at 5:15 p.m. at the Physical Activities Center. The game is the first of a two-game homestand for the Screaming Eagles, who host Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Saturday at 1 p.m. at the PAC.

USI (10-7, 2-4 GLVC) had won 10 of its last 12 games, but foul trouble hurt the Eagles last week as they lost at Bellarmine University, 83-77, and at Northern Kentucky University, 62-43.

One thing the Eagles want to do is keep sophomore forward Jasmine Baines (Jeffersonville, Indiana) out of foul trouble. Baines, who leads USI and ranks seventh in the GLVC with 13.8 points per game (ppg), has fouled out of three straight contests. She also leads the Eagles with 5.5 rebounds per game (rpg).

The Eagles did see some things they liked last week. Junior guard Katie Thiesenhusen (Muskego, Wisconsin) has averaged 21.3 ppg in USI's last three contests, including a career-high 24 points in the loss at Bellarmine. She is second on the team and 14th in the league with 12.1 ppg.

Freshman guard Keisha Collins (South Holland, Illinois), who leads all GLVC freshmen with 14.0 points in conference-only games, also needs to have a big performance this weekend. Collins is averaging 10.1 ppg and is sixth in the league with a team-high 3.9 assists per game (apg). She also ranks third in the GLVC with a 1.53 assist-to-turnover ratio.

Quincy (9-4, 3-2 GLVC) is coming off a 63-61 home loss to Saint Joseph's College last weekend. Senior forward/center Deana McCormick leads the Lady Hawks with 14.2 points, while senior forward Alicia Ordner leads the team with 6.6 rpg. Junior guard Jenny Wisser leads the Lady Hawks with 3.0 apg.

USI leads the all-time series with the Lady Hawks, 15-11. Quincy, however, swept the season-series in 2004-05 and has won three straight against the Eagles. The Lady Hawks are 8-5 since 2000 against USI.

The Eagles also lead the all-time series with SIU Edwardsville, 22-20. USI, which swept the season-series against a year ago, has won three straight against the Cougars and is 6-5 since 2000.

SIU Edwardsville (7-6, 1-4 GLVC), which plays Kentucky Wesleyan College in Owensboro, Kentucky, Thursday at 5:15 p.m., is coming off its first victory of the conference season—a 59-55 triumph over the University of Indianapolis.

Sophomore guard Whitney Sykes leads the Cougars with 11.1 ppg, while freshman guard/forward Deidra Dace is averaging a team-high 5.3 rpg. Sophomore guard Amy Austin leads SIU Edwardsville with 4.3 apg.
