EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana men's soccer team closed out the first homestand of the year by shutting out Campbellsville University, 4-0, Monday afternoon at Strassweg Field. USI raises his record to 2-2-0 overall, while Campbellsville falls to 1-3-1 overall.
The shutout was senior goalkeeper
Kyle Penick (Evansville, Indiana) second of the season. Penick also tied Jim Dionne for third place all-time at USI with 13 career shutouts.
Offensively, USI benefited from three unassisted goals by sophomore midfielder
Evan Stoll (Washington, Indiana), junior midfielder
Richie Maldonado (Indianapolis, Indiana), and freshman forward
Mike Bendzen (Evansville, Indiana). Stoll, who posted his second goal of the year, scored the game winner just 4:45 into the game.
The goal was the first of the season and at USI by Maldonado and Bendzen.
The Screaming Eagles concluded the scoring in the 78th minute on a goal by sophomore midfielder
Quintin Myers (Washington, Indiana). Myers scored his first of the year off a pass from junior midfielder
Eric Brewer (Granite City, Illinois).
USI opens the GLVC schedule Friday at Bellarmine University. The men's and women's doubleheader starts with the women's game at 1 p.m. (CDT), while the men's game is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. (CDT).
