EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana men's soccer team lost its home opener, 5-1, Saturday afternoon to Ashland University at Strassweg Field. USI falls to 1-2-0 overall, while Ashland raises its record to 1-2-0.
The Ashland Eagles led 2-0 at the intermission on goals in the final 15 minutes of the first half. Ashland increased its lead to 4-0 early in the second half before USI senior midfielder
Jeff Slaga (Kokomo, Indiana) scored the Screaming Eagles' only goal of the match.
Slaga scored his team-best third goal of the year on a pass from sophomore midfielder
Quintin Myers (Washington, Indiana). Myers' assist was a team-high third of the year.
Ashland finished the scoring on a penalty kick by forward Albert Smith for the 5-1 final.
USI returns to action on Labor Day when Campbellsville University (0-2-1) comes to Strassweg Field. Match time Monday is 1 p.m. The Eagles open the GLVC schedule on the road next weekend when they travel to Bellarmine University on September 9 for a men's and women's doubleheader.
