EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana volleyball team will need to go through No. 11 Northern Michigan University and No. 2 Truman State University in addition to Missouri Southern State University and Alderson-Broaddus College this weekend in the Cougar Classic in Edwardsville, Illinois, to get back on track after a tough start to the season a week ago.
USI (1-3) starts the weekend with Missouri Southern State (3-1) Friday at 2 p.m. before squaring off with regional foe Northern Michigan (1-3) at 4:30 p.m. The Screaming Eagles play Truman State (4-0) Saturday at Noon before playing another regional opponent, Alderson-Broaddus (0-0), at 2:30 p.m.
The Eagles have struggled with their attack early in the season, recording a mere .157 attacking percentage in their first four matches. Junior outside hitter
Chelse Doubler (Griffin, Indiana) leads the Eagles with 3.00 kills per game, while sophomore setter
Stephanie Wilson (Terre Haute, Indiana) is averaging just 10.50 assists per game.
Defensively, the Eagles are led by junior libero
Amanda Probst (Wheeler, Illinois) and senior middle blocker
Laura Ellerbusch (Newburgh, Indiana). Probst is averaging 3.64 digs per game, while Ellerbusch is averaging 1.43 blocks per game.
