EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana men's soccer team could not overcome a 2-0 first half deficit and lost the Mayor's Cup to the University of Evansville, 2-1, Saturday evening at Arad McCutchan Stadium.
The Purple Aces jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first 19 minutes of the first half. Jason Pele scored the first goal for the Aces at 9:21, while Erik Johnson scored the game winner at the 18:37 mark.
After playing defensively in the first half, the Screaming Eagles went on the offensive attack and were only out-shot 7-4 as compared to 5-1 in the first half. USI sophomore forward
Michael Dugger (Hanson, Kentucky) scored the Eagles only tally of the match on a header with 2:25 to play in the match.
USI opens the 2005 regular season campaign August 26 at Truman State University at 4 p.m. The first home match of 2005 for the Eagles is September 3 when Ashland University visits Strassweg Field for a 2:30 p.m. kick-off.
