Lead slips away as Eagles fall to Anderson

Anderson 8, USI 7

ANDERSON, S.C.—The University of Southern Indiana baseball team saw a 7-2 lead after three innings slip away as it fell to Anderson College, 8-7, Thursday afternoon at Anderson Memorial Stadium.

It is the fourth straight loss for the Screaming Eagles, who fall to 3-5 on the young campaign. It also is the third time this season and the second time in as many days that the Eagles have lost a lead of three or more runs.

USI jumped out to its 7-2 lead on the strength of senior utility player Matt Keener's (Newburgh, Indiana) two-run homer in the first inning and sophomore outfielder Justin Wolfe's (Brookville, Indiana) three-run shot in the third inning. Both Keener and Wolfe had two hits apiece in the contest. Keener's home run was his third of the season and second in as many games.

Senior first baseman F.A. Vildosola hit for the cycle, including a two-out, game-winning triple in the bottom of the ninth inning, to lead Anderson (11-14) to its third straight victory. Vildosola had a double in the first, a single in the sixth, a two-run home run in the eighth, and the game-winning triple in the ninth. The Trojans finished the game with 13 hits, while the Eagles had eight.

The Eagles will try to rebound from the loss when they travel to Harrogate, Tennessee, to take on Lincoln Memorial University Friday at noon (CST) in the first game of a three-game set. USI and the Railsplitters will finish the weekend with a doubleheader starting at 11 a.m. (CST) on Saturday.
