#19 USI 80, Indianapolis 77
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.—The No. 19-ranked University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team finished a successful road swing with an 80-77 victory over the University of Indianapolis Thursday afternoon at Nicoson Hall.
USI (17-4, 12-2 GLVC) shot 57.7 percent in the second half and out-rebounded the Greyhounds 43-22 for the game to win its season-best seventh straight contest.
Senior forward/centerÂ
Randy Holbrook (St. Louis, Missouri) hit a pair of free throws in the final 10 seconds of the game, causing Indianapolis's Lawrence Barnes to force up a desperation three-pointer as time expired, to seal the victory. Hobrook finished the game with 17 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
USI, which trailed 36-34 at the intermission, built a nine point lead with seven minutes to play in the game. However, Barnes scored 12 of his 21 points in the final seven minutes to help the Greyhounds get back into the contest.
The Eagles made good from the free throw line, however, scoring their last eight points of the game from the charity stripe. USI finished the game 19-of-24 from the line.
Freshman guardÂ
Carl Richburg (Mason, Ohio) continued his solid free throw shooting as he went 7-of-7 from the stripe, finishing the game with a team-high 18 points. Richburg, who has made 18 consecutive free throws, was a perfect 10-of-10 from the charity stripe Thursday night against Northern Kentucky University.
USI dominated the paint, outscoring the Greyhounds 36-20 inside the lane. Junior forwardÂ
Chris Thompson (Starke, Florida) helped the Eagles cause inside, scoring 11 points and collecting 11 rebounds.
The Eagles also got solid contributions from their guards. JuniorÂ
David Bryant (Louisville, Kentucky) finished with 14 points, 12 of which came in the second half, while senior guardÂ
Cris Brunson (Evansville, Indiana) chipped in 13 points, 10 of which came in the second period.
Indianapolis (15-6, 10-4 GLVC) was led by senior guard David Logan's game-high 29 points.
USI, which took over first place in the league standings with its victory and Southern Illinois University's 69-62 loss at Lewis University, will return home Thursday to take on the University of Wisconsin-Parkside in a 7:30 p.m. tip-off at the Physical Activities Center. USI will close out its regular-season home schedule Saturday when it hosts Lewis University at 3:15 p.m. for Homecoming/Senior Day.
