Eagles looking to stay perfect at home

EVANSVILLE, Ind—The University of Southern women's basketball team is looking to stay perfect at the Physical Activities Center when it hosts the University of Wisconsin-Parkside and Lewis University Thursday and Saturday, respectively. Tip offs are 5:15 p.m. Thursday and 1 p.m. Saturday.

USI (5-4, 1-1 GLVC) is 4-0 on its home court this season and has outscored the opposition by an average of 21.2 points per contest. Sophomore forward Jasmine Baines (Jeffersonville, Indiana) and junior guard Katie Theisenhusen (Muskego, Wisconsin) lead the Screaming Eagles at the PAC with 15.8 and 12.5 points per game, respectively.

For the season, Baines leads USI with 12.9 points per outing, while Theisenhusen is tied with freshman guard Keisha Collins (South Holland, Illinois) for second on the team with 10.1 points per contest. Collins averaged 19.5 points during USI's first two GLVC games.

The Eagles are coming off a 58-52 victory at the University of Missouri-St. Louis this past Saturday. They opened GLVC play with a 60-47 setback at the University of Missouri-Rolla last Thursday.

USI leads the all-time series with the Rangers of UW-Parkside, 17-3, and has won 10 of the 13 meetings between the two teams since 2000. The Eagles also lead the all-time series with Lewis, 25-22, and are 8-7 against the Flyers since 2000.

UW-Parkside (2-4, 1-1 GLVC), which swept the Eagles in two contests a year ago, are led by senior guard Carrie Schieve and junior guard Ashley Ferguson. Schieve is averaging a team-high 12.0 points and 4.5 assists per game, while Ferguson is second on the team with 11.0 points and 5.5 rebounds per outing. Sophomore center Nicole Watzlawick leads the Rangers with 6.8 rebounds per contest.

Lewis (4-2, 2-0 GLVC) defeated USI twice in the regular season and once in the GLVC Tournament last season. The Flyers, which play at Kentucky Wesleyan College Thursday evening, have four players averaging in double-figures. Junior guard/forward Mary Moskal is averaging a team-best 14.8 points per game and is second on the squad with 6.2 rebounds per contest, while junior forward Darcee Schmidt leads the team with 7.2 rebounds per game and is second on the team with 13.8 points per outing.

Senior guard Shante Glenn is averaging 11.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game.

This weekend's action will be the first two of a six-game home stand for the Eagles. USI hosts Wayne State University December 18 at 2 p.m. Purdue University-Calumet December 20 at 6 p.m. Oakland City University December 31 at 1 p.m. and the University of Alabama-Huntsville January 2 at 5:15 p.m.
