Eagles climb to seventh in regional poll

Host Saint Joseph's/Indianapolis to close regular-season

EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana volleyball team has climbed to seventh in the latest NCAA II Great Lakes Regional poll and will look to solidify its position when it hosts Saint Joseph's College Friday at 7 p.m. and the University of Indianapolis Saturday at 2 p.m.

This weekend's matches will be the final two matches of the regular season for the Screaming Eagles. Saturday's match with the Greyhounds is Senior Day as the Eagles will honor its lone senior, middle blocker Laura Ellerbusch (Newburgh, Indiana).

Ellerbusch's has been one of USI's all-time great players. The AVCA All-American and two-time All-GLVC selection is first all-time at USI with a .329 career attacking percentage, ranks third all-time in career block assists (241), and is fifth all-time at USI with 1,110 career kills.

USI (17-12, 9-5 GLVC) is currently fifth in the GLVC standings, but could move into fourth with a pair of victories and an Indianapolis loss to Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Friday.

The Eagles need to use their balanced attack to be successful this weekend. USI has three players averaging better than three kills per game. Junior outside hitter Emily Ryan (Batesville, Indiana) leads the team with 3.60 kills per game (kpg), while Ellerbusch is second on the squad with 3.25 kpg. Chelse Doubler (Griffin, Indiana), a junior outside hitter, is chipping in 3.11 kpg.

Sophomore setter Stephanie Wilson (Terre Haute, Indiana) is second in the GLVC with 12.00 assists per game and has set the Eagles' attack to the tune of a .231 attacking percentage against GLVC competition.

Defensively, the Eagles have been solid at the net and lead the GLVC in conference matches with 2.79 blocks per game (bpg). Ellerbusch ranks sixth in the GLVC with 1.09 bpg, while sophomore middle blocker Molly Rahman (Ferdinand, Indiana) is ninth in the league with 1.03 bpg.

Junior libero Amanda Probst (Wheeler, Illinois) also has been a solid contributor to the Eagles' defense. Probst is sixth in the conference with 3.96 digs per game (dpg) and is fourth in the GLVC with 4.82 dpg in conference play.

Saint Joseph's enters the Physical Activities Center with a 10-20 overall record and a 4-10 mark in the GLVC, while Indianapolis is 22-11 overall and 11-3 in the GLVC. The GLVC Tournament is November 10-12 at the GLVC's top seed, while the eight-team NCAA II Great Lakes Regional Tournament is the following week at a site to be announced.
