EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana men's basketball broke the century mark for the first time in 2005-06 in a 107-69 victory over Glenville State College Friday evening in the first day of the USI Invitational at the Physical Activities Center. USI remains perfect with a 5-0 record, while Glenville State falls to 0-3 overall.

The Screaming Eagles led the game from start to finish. USI built its first half lead to as many as 18 points, 44-26, with 2:54 left before intermission. The Pioneers closed the gap in the final minutes in the first half with a 12-3 runs to cut the lead to 47-38 at halftime.

After Glenville State cut the lead even further, 49-42, to open the second half, USI put the game away with a 26-2 runs. The Eagles would build the margin to as much as 39 points, 101-62, with 4:26 left in the game.

With a game-high 25 points, senior forward Chris Thompson (Starke, Florida) led the Eagles in scoring for the fifth straight time. Thompson was 10-14 from the field and five-of-six from the line, while grabbing nine rebounds.

Five other Eagles joined Thompson in posting double figures in the scoring column. Junior guard Melvin Hall (Evansville, Indiana) followed Thompson with 16 points, while senior guard David Bryant (Louisville, Kentucky) and junior forward Geoff Van Winkle (Ferdinand, Indiana) scored 14 points each and junior forward Nick Brooks (Robinson, Illinois) and freshman center Mike Harrington (Country Club Hills, Illinois) dropped in 12 points each.

On the boards, junior forward/center Keith Christmas (Gary, Indiana) grabbed 10 rebounds for USI to lead the way. The Eagles outrebounded the Pioneers, 52-42.

In the first game of the invitational, Bellarmine University defeated Central State University 79-60. Bellarmine raises its record to 2-2, while Central State falls to 1-2.

The Eagles resume action in the USI Invitational Saturday evening when they play Central State at 7:30 p.m. Bellarmine plays Glenville State at 5:30 p.m., prior to the USI contest.

USI will open the GLVC schedule next week on the road when it travels to Rolla, Missouri, for the first league game against the University of Missouri-Rolla on December 1. The Eagles finish the first conference road trip of the season on December 3 at the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
