KANSAS CITY, Mo.—The University of Southern Indiana volleyball team fell to the University of Indianapolis 26-30, 32-30, 30-21, 31-29 in the first round of the GLVC Tournament Thursday evening.
It marks the first time in six years that the Screaming Eagles have failed to reach the GLVC Championship match and the first time in six years that they have finished the season with less than 20 wins.
USI (19-13), which had fallen out of the final NCAA II Great Lakes Region rankings, raced out to a one-game lead, but the Greyhounds overcame game points in both the second and fourth games to put the Eagles away.
Junior outside hitter
Chelse Doubler (Griffin, Indiana) led the Eagles with 20 kills, while senior middle blocker
Laura Ellerbusch (Newburgh, Indiana) and junior outside hitter
Emily Ryan (Batesville, Indiana) chipped in 13 and 10 kills, respectively.
Sophomore setter
Stephanie Wilson (Terre Haute, Indiana) finished with 53 assists, junior libero
Amanda Probst (Wheeler, Illinois) had a team-best 24 digs. Wilson finished with 12 digs and seven blocks, while Ellerbusch had 12 digs and six blocks. Ryan finished with 19 digs.
Indianapolis (23-13) got 17 kills from Emeral Holladay and 29 digs from Ashley Fallos.
