USI posts third straight shutout

Southern Indiana (7-5-0, 6-3-0 GLVC): 3 Saint Joseph's (4-7-1, 3-4-0 GLVC): 0

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team recorded its third straight win and shutout with a 3-0 victory over Saint Joseph's College Sunday afternoon at Strassweg Field. USI raises its record to 7-5-0 overall and 6-3-0 in the GLVC, while SJC falls to 4-7-1 overall, 3-4-0 GLVC.

USI struck for a pair of goals early in the first half on the offense generated by sophomore forwards Julie Collins (Merrillville, Indiana) and Katie Grossman (Evansville, Indiana). Collins scored her team-best ninth goal and fifth game-winner at the 12:51 mark off a pass from Grossman to give USI a 1-0 lead.

Five minutes later, Grossman scored her third goal of the season off a pass from Collins at the 17:37 mark.

Collins also contributed on USI's third goal of the game in the second half. Senior forward Alisann Shetler (Evansville, Indiana) scored her third of the year at the 50:50 mark off an assist by Collins to make the score 3-0.

Between the posts, sophomore goalkeeper Meagan Homolla (Portage, Indiana) and junior goalkeeper Casey Hrvatin (Evansville, Indiana) combined for the team's fifth shutout of the year. Homolla made three saves in 57 minutes of action, while Hrvatin stopped a shot in her 33 minutes of play.

The Eagles will play outside of the GLVC next week when they travel to Ohio for a pair of road games. USI plays at Tiffin University on October 8 and at the University of Findlay on October 9. The next home game for the Eagles is not until October 21 when the squad hosts the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.
