EVANSVILLE, Ind. 
– The University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team stopped Quincy University defensively in the first half and cruised to an 84-56 victory Saturday afternoon at the Physical Activities Center. USI raises its record to 13-4 overall and 9-2 in the GLVC, while Quincy falls to 10-7 overall, 6-5 GLVC.

The Screaming Eagles outscored the Hawks 46-18 in the first half, allowing Quincy to shoot 25.9 percent (7-27) in the opening stanza. The Eagles, on the other hand, shot a blistering 63.3 percent from the field in opening a 28-point halftime margin.

In the second half, the USI lead slipped below 20-points briefly before rebuilding it to the 28-point margin and the 84-56 final.

Offensively, the Eagles broke the 80-point mark for the first time in three games and shot a red-hot 59.3 percent from the field (32-54) and 55.0 percent from beyond the three-point arc (11-20).

Eagles' senior guard Cris Brunson (Evansville, Indiana) scored in double-digits for the third straight game with 14 points and moved past former USI All-American Ilo Mutombo (1988-91) into the USI top five all-time with 1,359 career points.

For the game, USI was led by senior forward/center Randy Holbrook (St. Louis, Missouri) with 25 points. He was joined in double figures by Brunson junior forward Chris Thompson (Starke, Florida) with 13 points and sophomore forward Geoff Van Winkle (Ferdinand, Indiana) with 12 points.

Thompson also led the Eagles on the boards with 12 rebounds. The double-double was the fifth in the last eight games and sixth of the season for Thompson.

USI resumes the homestand with a non-conference game against Oakland City University January 26 at 7:30 p.m. The Eagles resume GLVC action and complete the four-game homestand by hosting Kentucky Wesleyan College on January 29.
