Laura Ellerbusch (Newburgh, Indiana) has been named the GLVC "Player of the Week" for the second time this season.
Ellerbusch, a graduate of Castle High School, hit a blistering .537 and recorded 25 kills in just six games to lead the Screaming Eagles to road wins over Kentucky Wesleyan College and Northern Kentucky University.
On Saturday, Ellerbusch set the tone for a huge victory over the Norse as she converted her first eight attacks into kills during a 30-17 win in the first set. It was USI's fourth straight victory and second straight win over NKU in Regents Hall.
She finished the NKU match with 17 kills, five blocks, and a .452 attacking percentage. Ellerbusch had eight kills in just 10 attempts the night before in a 3-0 victory over KWC.
For the season, Ellerbusch leads the Eagles in kills (3.50 kpg), blocks (0.80 bpg), points (4.38 ppg), and hitting percentage (.345).
USI travels to Edwardsville, Illinois, to take on Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Wednesday night. Match-time is 7 p.m. at the Vadalabene Center on the SIUE campus and admission is free for fans that bring who give a donation of toiletries at the gate.
The Eagles (10-4 overall, 4-0 GLVC) are tied atop the GLVC standings with SIUE and the University of Indianapolis. USI will host Indianapolis and SIUE at the Physical Activities Center in October. SIUE enters Wednesday's contest with a 13-4 overall record.
