The University of Southern Indiana men's soccer team dropped a heartbreaker in overtime, 2-1, to Columbia College Sunday afternoon at Strassweg Field. The Screaming Eagles fall to 1-1-0 overall, while Columbia also moves to 1-1-0.
Columbia scored first and last off the foot of senior midfielder Juan Pagoada. He scored both of his goals – 20:03 into the match and the game-winner at 96:55 – on balls the USI defense had just cleared out of the goal area.
USI freshman forward
Michael Dugger (Hanson, Kentucky) scored his second goal in as many games in the first half to tie the match, 1-1. Dugger scored on a penalty kick after freshman midfielder
Jay Whitney (Chrisney, Indiana) was fouled in the penalty area.
The Eagles go on the road next week to play a pair of neutral site matches in the Soccer Bowl XII hosted by Quincy University. USI will play Truman State University Saturday, September 4, and Rockhurst University Sunday, September 5. Start times for both matches is 5 p.m.
USI will return to the friendly confines of Strassweg Field Friday, September 17, to open the GLVC schedule by hosting Quincy.
