EVANSVILLE, Ind. – La-Troy Farrow hit a free throw with four seconds remaining in the game to snap a 73-73 tie and Kentucky Wesleyan College held off the University of Southern Indiana, 74-73, Saturday night in the semifinals of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament at Roberts Stadium.

After Farrow made the first free throw to give Kentucky Wesleyan a 74-73 lead, his second attempt was off target and rebounded by Southern Indiana. Cris Brunson attempted a desperation 30-footer at the buzzer, but his shot hit off the backboard and Kentucky Wesleyan escaped with the victory.

Kentucky Wesleyan utilized a deliberate offense in the first half and built a 35-28 lead at the break. Dewayne Rogers – running the offense from the point against bigger Southern Indiana defenders – scored 11 first-half points to pace the Panthers.

Kentucky Wesleyan also shot 55.6 percent from the field before halftime and limited Southern Indiana to 41.4 percent shooting.

In the second half, Southern Indiana made 8-of-18 3-point attempts and eventually led by as many as four points. Kentucky Wesleyan rallied, however, behind the play of Bobby Zuerner (11 points) and Craig Schoen (14 points) to take a 69-64 lead with 4:39 remaining.

Brunson – who led Southern Indiana with 19 points – hit a reverse layup with 26 seconds left to tie the score at 73-73, setting the stage for Farrow. He drove the ball into the lane and was fouled with four seconds remaining, and he converted the winning free throw.

Rogers finished with 13 points for third-seeded Kentucky Wesleyan, which improved to 21-7. The Panthers shot 48.9 percent from the field.

Randy Holbrook scored 15 points for Southern Indiana, which dropped to 23-6. The second-seeded Screaming Eagles won the rebounding battle by a 39-26 margin but shot only nine free throws the entire game.

It marked the third straight year that Southern Indiana lost in the semifinals of the GLVC Tournament. During the regular season, the Screaming Eagles defeated Kentucky Wesleyan twice.

Kentucky Wesleyan will meet top-seeded Lewis University in the GLVC Tournament championship game on Sunday.
