Eagles set record with victory

QUINCY, Ill.—Behind Head Coach Molly Alvey, the University of Southern Indiana volleyball team wrapped up its 2004 regular season in record style. The Screaming Eagles improved to 21-6 overall and set a school record with a 15-1 mark in the GLVC by defeating Quincy University 30-28, 30-23, 30-20 Saturday at the Pepsi Arena in their regular-season finale.

USI used a balanced attack to set down the Lady Hawks as four Eagles finished with double digits in kills.

Senior middle blocker Leeanne Gross (Decatur, Indiana) and junior middle blocker Laura Ellerbusch (Newburgh, Indiana) each finished with 12 kills, while sophomore outside hitters Emily Ryan (Batesville, Indiana) and Chelse Doubler (Griffin, Indiana) recorded 12 and 10 kills, respectively.

Freshman setter Stephanie Wilson (Terre Haute, Indiana) finished with a match-high 38 assists, while sophomore libero Amanda Probst (Wheeler, Illinois) recorded with a match-high 28 digs. Senior right side hitter Natalie Atzinger (Louisville, Kentucky) had 16 digs and a match-high three service aces as the Eagles finished with their eighth straight conference victory.

USI will host the GLVC Tournament November 11-13 at the Physical Activities Center.

The Eagles will play the winner of Thursday's 7:30 p.m. match, featuring the University of Indianapolis and Lewis University, Friday at 7:30 p.m., while the second seed, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville will play the winner of Thursday's 5 p.m. match, featuring Northern Kentucky University and Saint Joseph's College, Friday at 5 p.m. The GLVC Tournament Championship will take place Saturday at 2 p.m.
