EVANSVILLE, IN– The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team could not overcome a two-goal deficit in dropping a 2-1 decision to Saint Joseph's College at Strassweg Field Friday evening. USI's record goes to 4-9-0 overall and 2-4-0 in the GLVC, while SJC goes to 3-6-4 overall, 3-3-1 GLVC.
The Pumas' forward Melissa Melinauskas gave Saint Joseph's a 1-0 lead just before halftime on a goal at the 39:00 mark. She was assisted on the play by a pass from midfielder Maddy Starin.
Saint Joseph's increased its lead to 2-0 just after halftime on a goal by midfielder Melissa Janowitsch. This time Melinauskas assisted on the goal that came at the 51:11 mark.
USI got on the board late in the second half on a goal by sophomore midfielder
Kara Marcum (Evansville, Indiana). Marcum knocked in her first goal of the year at the 79:02, connecting on a crossing pass from freshman midfielder
Katie Barisano (Newburgh, Indiana).
The Screaming Eagles had numerous chances in the final minutes, but the Pumas defense held firm. USI out shot SJC, 12-6.
The Eagles will complete the 2004 home schedule by hosting the University of Indianapolis Sunday afternoon for Senior Day. The Eagles will recognize seniors
