EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana volleyball team hit .485 in the first game to set the tone for a 30-13, 30-18, 30-25 victory over Saint Joseph's College Saturday at the Physical Activities Center.
USI (18-5, 12-1 GLVC) finishes its 2004 regular season home schedule with a perfect 11-0 record and now needs two more victories in GLVC play to clinch the top seed and the right to host the GLVC Tournament November 11-13.
Senior middle blocker
Leeanne Gross (Decatur, Indiana) and junior middle blocker
Laura Ellerbusch (Newburgh, Indiana) each had a match-high 10 kills, while freshman setter
Stephanie Wilson (Terre Haute, Indiana) recorded a match-high 38 assists to lead the Screaming Eagles to their fifth straight victory.
Sophomore libero/outside hitter
Amanda Probst (Wheeler, Illinois) led USI's defensive effort with 13 digs.
Joining Gross in their last career regular season home match were seniors
Randi Raff (Rensselaer, Indiana),
Kristine Wheeler (Indianapolis, Indiana), and
Natalie Atzinger (Louisville, Kentucky). Raff finished with nine kills, while Wheeler had eight digs and a match-high three service aces. Atzinger had four kills and two service aces in the victory.
USI will play Bellarmine University in Louisville, Kentucky, a week from today, before traveling to Florence, Alabama, October 31 to take on defending national champion University of North Alabama.
