INDIANAPOLIS—The University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team dropped a heart-breaker Thursday evening as it fell to the 19th-ranked University of Indianapolis Greyhounds, 71-68, at Nicoson Hall in Indianapolis, Indiana.

USI's five-game winning streak came to a close as it fell to 10-3 overall and 4-3 in the GLVC.

Trailing by 10 with 14 minutes to play in the contest, the Screaming Eagles used a pair of 7-0 runs to tie the game at 53. Freshman point guard Lauren Parrish (Shepherdsville, Kentucky) scored eight points of her team-high 14 points during USI's run. Parrish also added four rebounds and four steals while committing just one turnover in 36 minutes of action.

After a three-pointer by junior guard Sara Riedman put the Greyhounds back in the lead at 56-53, USI clawed back with four straight free throws to take its first lead of the second half.

With the score tied at 64 with three minutes to go in the game, sophomore center Megan Dossen and junior guard Amy Wisser combined for six points to put the Greyhounds back in the lead at 70-66 with 1:13 to play in regulation. Wisser and Dossen finished the game with 18 and 15 points, respectively.

Indianapolis (10-4, 4-3 GLVC) missed two straight free throws and the front end of a two-shot foul as well as its chance to shut the door on the Eagles in the final 30 seconds of regulation. USI took advantage of the situation as senior forward Shannon Wells (Merrillville, Indiana) scored on a lay up with less than 20 seconds to play, putting the Eagles to within two at 70-68.

After junior guard Erin Moran broke Indianapolis's streak of three straight missed free throws, the Eagles found themselves in a one possession game (71-68) with 15 seconds remaining in the game. Senior forward Shajuan Lindsey (Midlothian, Illinois) missed a chance to tie the game with a three-pointer, but the Eagles caught a break when the ball went out of bounds off one of Indianapolis's players.

USI had one more shot to tie the contest at 71 with just over a second to play, but junior guard Jamie Truitt (Owensboro, Kentucky), who finished the game with 11 points, missed a desperation three-pointer as time ran out.

For the game, the Eagles were a dismal 2-of-15 from behind the arc after entering the contest shooting 40.3 percent from three-point range.

In the first period, the Eagles jumped out to an early 11-6 lead. However, the Greyhounds went on a 12-2 run to take an 18-13 lead seven minutes into the contest.

USI fought back to tie the game at 19, but Indianapolis used a 12-3 lead to take a commanding nine-point lead with five minutes remaining in the opening stanza. The Eagles closed the gap to two points on a pair of occasions before heading into the locker room facing a 37-32 halftime deficit.

Sophomore guard Clarissa Gross (Marion, Illinois) scored all eight of her points to lead the Eagles in the first half. Wells also scored seven of her 13 points in the first half, while grabbing six of her game-high tying seven rebounds in the opening period.

USI will travel to Highland Heights, Kentucky, on Saturday to take on #22 Northern Kentucky University. NKU (9-3, 4-2 GLVC) is coming off an 87-46 victory over Kentucky Wesleyan College. Tip-off is slated for noon (CST).
