Evansville, IN—The #14-ranked University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team won a squeaker over Quincy University, 70-67, Thursday evening at the Physical Activities Center. USI raises its record to 14-3 overall and 7-3 in the GLVC, while Quincy falls to 7-10 overall, 3-7 GLVC.
The Screaming Eagles shot 50 percent from the field (14-28) and led by as many as eight points, 25-17, in the first half. The Hawks fought back and sent the game into the intermission tied 31-31.
The second half was just as close as the team fought to four ties and six lead changes. The Eagles took the lead for good at 6:22 with a 60-58 lead and built their largest lead of the game, 68-58, with 4:03 to play. Quincy outscored the Eagles 9-2 in the final minutes, but it was not enough as USI came away with the victory, 70-67.
USI was led by the career-high evening of senior guardÂ
Mike Arnold (Indianapolis, Indiana), who had 18 points on four three-point field goals. Arnold was followed in double figures by junior centerÂ
Randy Holbrook (St. Louis, Missouri), who had 12 points, and freshman forwardÂ
Geoff Van Winkle (Ferdinand, Indiana), who had 10 points.
