EVANSVILLE, Ind.—Five players scored in double figures to lift the University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team to an 88-61 victory over Kentucky Wesleyan College Thursday evening at the Physical Activities Center.

USI (11-4, 5-4 GLVC) started the contest with a 6-0 run and used a 13-0 run later in the contest to break the game wide open. The Screaming Eagles turned 15 first-half turnovers into 26 points as they built a 45-18 halftime advantage.

Sophomore guard Clarissa Gross (Marion, Illinois) scored 10 of her team-leading and career-high 15 points in the first stanza. Gross hit all four of her shots, including a pair from three-point range, in the opening period to help the Eagles shoot 60 percent from the floor, as a team, in the first half.

Defensively, the Eagles recorded seven steals in the opening stanza while holding the Panthers to five field goals and a 27.8 shooting percentage.

Other players in double figures for the Eagles included junior guard Jamie Truitt (Owensboro, Kentucky) as well as senior forward Shannon Wells (Merrillville, Indiana) and junior forward/center Andrea Engleking (Charlottesville, Indiana).

Truitt finished with 13 points, eight of which came in the second stanza, while Engleking recorded 11 points and five rebounds. Wells came off the bench to score 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting.

Junior center Megan Nelson (Clarendon Hills, Illinois) also came off the bench to score 10 points while matching Engleking's team-high five rebounds.

For the game, the Eagles shot 55.4 percent from the floor, while forcing the Panthers to 25 turnovers.

KWC (2-12, 0-8 GLVC) was led by freshman guard Whitney Espenlaub's 17 points.

USI will return to action next Thursday, January 22, when they host #12 Quincy University and former USI standout Jessica Stuckman. Tip-off is slated for 5:15 p.m. at the PAC.
