CARROLLTON, Ga.-The University of Southern Indiana baseball team dropped the rubber of game of a three-game series to the State University of West Georgia, 8-5, Sunday afternoon in Carrollton, Georgia. USI falls to 5-4 overall this spring, while West Georgia goes to 14-5.
The Screaming Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the first and a 2-1in the third inning only to see the Braves answer with the tying tally. West Georgia took a 3-2 lead in the fifth and a 5-3 lead in the sixth with USI returning the favor and tying the game 3-3 in the sixth and 5-5 in the seventh.
The Braves took the lead for good with a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh and sealed the victory with a tally in the eighth.

Bowie Johnson (Brazil, Indiana) took the loss for the Eagles in relief, allowing four runs, all earned, in 2 1/3 innings. Sophomore right-handerÂ
Matt Keener (Newburgh, Indiana) started for USI, going 4 1/3 and allowing three runs, two earned. Junior right-handerÂ
Mike Kottmeyer (Boulder, Illinois) finished the game for the Eagles, allowing one run in an inning and a third.

Andy Nucci (Ft. Wayne, Indiana), and senior rightfielderÂ
Steve Owen (Wauwatosa, Wisconsin) led the way with two hits apiece against three West Georgia pitchers.
The Eagles, 1-2 on the spring road trip, will play a rare night game at the University of South Carolina-Aiken Monday, March 10. Game time Monday evening is 5 p.m. (CT).
