EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- With snow still on the warning track, the University of Southern Indiana baseball team opened the 2003 home schedule with a 5-0 victory over Oakland City University Tuesday afternoon at the USI Baseball Field. USI raises its record to 3-2 overall, while OCU falls to 0-1.
The Screaming Eagles started their scoring in the bottom of the first when senior second basemanÂ
Adam Schiff (Evansville, Indiana) tripled in senior leftfielderÂ
Andy Nucci (Ft. Wayne, Indiana) to make the score 1-0. USI went on to score one more in the second, two in the fifth, and one in the eight for the victory. Schiff was followed by RBI triples by sophomore designated hitterÂ
Toby Pritchard (Ft. Wayne, Indiana), and senior catcherÂ
Paul Kohler (Arnold, Missouri) in the win.
The Might Oaks were held scoreless by four USI pitchers, led by sophomore right-handerÂ
Matt Keener (Newburgh, Indiana). Keener went 6 2/3 innings, allowing just three hits and striking out six. Keener was followed to the mound by freshman right-handerÂ
Matt Goans (Evansville, Indiana), senior right-handerÂ
Dan Tomashek (Ft. Wayne, Indiana), and senior right-handerÂ
Bowie Johnson (Brazil, Indiana). Johnson was credited with his first save of the year.
