The #2-ranked University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team pushed its record to a perfect 5-0 overall and 3-0 in the GLVC with a 95-80 win over the University of Missouri-St. Louis Thursday evening in St. Louis, Missouri.
The Eagles were slow out of the game and were down 15-10 with 14 minutes to play when their offense came to life. USI outscored UMSL the 38-20 the remainder of the first half and took a 48-35 lead into the intermission.
In the second half, the Eagles took total control of the game pushing their lead to as many as 25 points at 77-52. The Rivermen attempted a comeback late in the game, but were only able to get the USI lead down to 13 points, 93-80, with 26 seconds to play.
The victory marked the 10th straight GLVC-road victory of the Eagles and the squad will go for their fifth straight road-trip sweep on Saturday, December 6, at Quincy University. Game time is 3:15 p.m.
USI junior center
Randy Holbrook (St. Louis, Missouri) led the team with 29 points and 11 rebounds for his first double-double as a Eagle. He was followed by senior guard
Joe Gordon (Palm Bay, Florida) with 14 points, while freshman guard/forward
Geoff Van Winkle (Ferdinand, Indiana) added 12 points and senior forward
Billy Harris (Carbondale, Illinois) dropped in 10 points.
The next home game for the Eagles will be Monday, December 8, when they host Henderson State University in a 7 p.m. contest.
