The University of Southern Indiana volleyball team closed out the regular season Saturday with a 3-0 win over Bellarmine University in Louisville, Kentucky. The win boasts USI's record to 19-8 overall and 8-6 in the GLVC while the Lady Knights end their season with a 6-26 mark and a 2-13 record in conference play.
Senior middle blocker
Leeanne Gross (Decatur, Indiana) recorded a match-high 16 kills to lead the Screaming Eagles to the 30-18, 30-13, 31-29 victory. Gross finished the match with a .312 attacking percentage and moved into fourth all-time at USI in career kills (1,109).
Sophomore middle hitter
Laura Ellerbusch (Newburgh, Indiana) and senior outside hitter
Ashley Riordan (Mt. Vernon, Indiana) led USI in hitting percentage. Ellerbusch racked up nine kills and a match-high .529 attacking percentage, while Riordan finished with eight kills and a .438 hitting percentage.
As a team, the Eagles pounded out 47 kills and a .321 attacking percentage. Senior setter
Kim Boehmer (Cincinnati, Ohio) recorded 40 assists to pave the way of USI's attack.
The Eagles will enter next weekend's GLVC Tournament as the fifth seed and will play Quincy University, the fourth seed, in the first round. That match is slated for a 4 p.m. (CST) start at Regents Hall in Highland Heights, Kentucky.
