Wells scored nine of her 17 points in the final 7:35 of the first half to help the Screaming Eagles (3-0) overcome a four-point deficit and go into the locker room with a 38-31 lead.

After seeing its seven-point halftime lead dwindle to three points early in the second period, senior forward Shajuan Lindsey (Midlothian, Illinois) converted a three-point play to give USI a 43-37 advantage. Lindsey scored six of her 11 points in the second period to help the Eagles hold off the Lady Oaks. She also finished with a team-high seven rebounds.

Oakland City closed the gap to four points on five separate occasions before the Eagles could pull away. Staked to a 55-51 lead, the Eagles used a 16-3 run over the last 8:15 of the game to pull out their third victory of the season.

Sophomore forward Ashley Green (Otterbein, Indiana) scored six of her 12 points in the second period to help USI's offensive cause. Junior guard Kennitra Johnson (New Albany, Indiana) quietly added 13 points before leaving the game with a foot injury midway through the second period.
