Eagles return after week-long layoff

The University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team will return to the court after a week-long layoff this Tuesday, November 25, when it hosts Oakland City University in a 5:15 p.m. tip-off at the Physical Activities Center in Evansville, Indiana.

USI (2-0) is coming off a pair of wins to open its 2003-04 campaign. The Screaming Eagles started the season with a 91-86 victory over Pittsburg State University before defeating Hillsdale College, 77-72, in their latest triumph.

Junior guards Kennitra Johnson (New Albany, Indiana) and Jamie Truitt (Owensboro, Kentucky) have led the Eagles in scoring through the first two contests. Johnson is pacing the Eagles with 21.5 points per game to go along with 3.5 assists per game, while Truitt is adding 20.5 points per outing.

The Eagles also are getting significant scoring production from senior forward Shajuan Lindsey (Midlothian, Illinois) and sophomore forward Ashley Green (Otterbein, Indiana). Lindsey is averaging 16.0 points and 4.5 rebounds per contest, while Green has recorded 10.5 points as well as a team-high 5.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game.

After a two-year hiatus, the Eagles will resume their series with Oakland City. The Eagles lead the all-time series with the Lady Oaks, 22-11, and have won 11 of 12 games against OCU at the PAC, including a 106-43 victory in their last meeting at the PAC on December 16, 2000.

OCU enters the PAC with a 2-1 mark after winning a pair of games at the Alderson-Broaddus Classic in Philippi, West Virginia. The Lady Oaks started the tournament with an 88-62 victory over Alderson-Broaddus and ended it with a 58-40 victory over Davis and Elkins College.

Leading OCU are junior guard/forwards Erin Evans and Kaite Miller. Evans is averaging 14.3 points and 5.0 rebounds per game, while Miller is adding 12.7 points and 4.7 rebounds per outing.

Senior center Meagan Stockberger is averaging 9.7 points and a team-leading 6.0 rebounds per contest, while senior forward Lindsay Macon is adding 7.0 points and 5.7 rebounds per game.

After their game with OCU, the Eagles will start GLVC play when they travel to Louisville, Kentucky, to take on Bellarmine University. Tip-off is slated for 4:45 p.m. (CST).
