USI women’s soccer falls to Bellarmine

Bellarmine University (8-1-3, 2-1-1 GLVC): 1 @University of Southern Indiana (4-6-0, 1-4-0 GLVC): 0

The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team lost its third consecutive match Friday night, this time a 1-0 loss to Bellarmine University at Strassweg Field in Evansville, Indiana. The Screaming Eagles fall to 4-6-0 overall and 1-4-0 in the GLVC while the Lady Knights improve to 8-1-3 overall and 2-1-1 in the GLVC.

Both offenses struggled in the first half as both Bellarmine and USI recorded just three shots each in the first period. However, with less than six minutes to play in the first half, Bellarmine's Kacie Wilkinson kicked the ball between two USI defenders to find Danielle Polce for the eventual game-winner.

USI came alive in the second half as the Eagles fired off nine shots, five of which were on goal. The Eagles nearly tied the match with 10 seconds remaining in the contest, but USI sophomore forward Alisann Shetler's (Evansville, Indiana) shot sailed just left of the goal.

Freshman goalkeeper Casey Hrvatin (Evansville, Indiana) led the Eagles defensively with three saves while Bellarmine's Erin Strouse recorded a match-high six saves between the posts for the Lady Knights.

The Eagles will return to action this Sunday, October 5, when they take on the defending GLVC champions, Northern Kentucky University, at Strassweg Field. Kickoff is slated for noon.
