USI’s Boehmer two assists shy of 5,000

Senior setter Kim Boehmer (Cincinnati, Ohio) started the 2003 season in need of just two assists to reach 4,000 for her career.

As the University of Southern Indiana volleyball team enters its match against Great Lakes Valley Conference front-runner Southern Illinois University Edwardsville this Friday, October 31, Boehmer needs just two assists to reach 5,000 for her career, something only four players in GLVC history have accomplished.

Her 1,000 assists in 2003 marks the fourth consecutive year that Boehmer has reached 1,000. She is the Screaming Eagles' all-time leader in career assists and is vying to become USI's first four-time All-GLVC performer.

Boehmer needs just 20 assists to pass Lewis University's Karen Lawton for fourth all-time in GLVC history and just 110 assists to pass Quincy University's Brenda Walters for third all-time in league history. Indiana University/Purdue University-Ft. Wayne's Tami Isch is second in GLVC history with 5,658 career assists while Bellarmine University's Abbi Payne has a conference-record 6,093 career assists.

What makes Boehmer's career assist accomplishments more impressive is that she is 79 digs away from becoming the sixth player in school history to reach 1,000 career digs. She is sixth all-time at USI with 921 career digs.

In 2003, Boehmer ranks fourth in the GLVC with 11.9 assists per game and is third at USI with 2.61digs per game. For her career, Boehmer has set USI's offensive to a .258 attacking percentage, including a school-record tying .267 attacking percentage in 2001.

Boehmer is a two-time All-Great Lakes Region performer. She became just the second player in school history to earn AVCA All-Region honors in 2001 and followed that up with a Daktronics All-Region selection in 2002.

Saturday, November 1, Boehmer and teammate Ashley Riordan (Mt. Vernon, Indiana) will play their final home match at USI. Boehmer has been a part of more victories than any volleyball player in USI history. She has helped the Eagles to a 91-29 record in four seasons.

USI's match against SIUE this Friday is slated for a 7 p.m. start while its match against the University of Missouri-St. Louis on Saturday is scheduled for 2 p.m.
