University of Southern Indiana sophomore forward
Alisann Shetler's (Evansville, Indiana) goal three minutes into the second "sudden victory" overtime period gave the Screaming Eagles a 2-1 road victory over Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Friday evening. USI raises its record to 6-7-1 overall and 3-5-0 in the GLVC, while SIUE goes to 7-6-0 overall, 1-6-0 GLVC.
The victory increased USI's hold on the eighth and final GLVC Tournament spot and gave the Eagles a two-game lead and the tiebreaker over SIUE.
Shetler scored the game winner at 103:01 off a pass from freshman midfielder
Kara Marcum (Evansville, Indiana) and senior forward
Aisha Earle-Smith (Spring, Texas). The goal was the seventh of the year for Shetler, tying her for the team lead with Earle-Smith.
SIUE struck first in the match when junior forward Ann Crawford scored just 18 seconds into the match.
USI tied the scored just before halftime when sophomore midfielder
Brooklyn Wilke (Evansville, Indiana) scored her fifth goal of the year at the 40:34 mark. She was assisted on the play by junior back
Lisa Stucki (Evansville, Indiana).
The Eagles will finish the road trip Sunday, October 19, when they play Quincy University in Quincy, Illinois, at noon. USI will return to the friendly surroundings of Strassweg Field Satuday, October 25, when it hosts the University of Missouri-St. Louis for Senior Day.
