The University of Southern Indiana men's cross country team took third in the Belmont Cross Country Invitational on Friday. The invitational featured seven Division I men's teams.
All-American junior
Joey Byrne (Georgetown, Indiana) was second in the men's race and led the third place men's team with a 5k time of 15:51.55, just over five-seconds out of first behind the University of Alabama's Peter Kiprono's time of 15:46.43.
Byrne was joined in the top 15 by junior
Mark Thurner (Hebron, Indiana) with a seventh place time of 16:08.24 and freshman
Eric Fleming (Valparaiso, Indiana) with a 15th place time of 16:36.84.
In the team standings, the Eagles fell to the University of Alabama and Belmont University, but were victorious over Western Kentucky University, the University of Evansville, David Lipscomb University, Vanderbilt University, Austin Peay State University, North Alabama University, and Tennessee State University.
