Missouri-St. Louis (22-18, 11-11 GLVC): 1

The University of Southern Indiana baseball team got back on the winning track with a 4-1 road victory at the University of Missouri-St. Louis Wednesday afternoon. The Screaming Eagles raised their record to 19-25 overall and 11-15 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while the Rivermen fall to 22-18, 11-11 GLVC.

The Eagles had wait out an hour rain-delay in the sixth inning to get the victory.

USI senior right-handed pitcher Steve Arnold (Evansville, Indiana) posted his second complete game in two starts to pick up his third win of the year. Arnold (3-5) went nine innings, allowing three hits and one run while striking out five.

The Eagles scored all of the runs they would need in the second inning on junior designated hitter Aaron Brown's (Florrissant, Missouri) three-run in-the-park home run. Brown drove the ball into centerfield, scoring junior catcher Paul Kohler (Arnold, Missouri) and sophomore leftfielder Adam Anderson (Raleigh, Illinois).

USI picked up an insurance run in the third inning when junior rightfielder Steve Owen (Wauwatosa, Wisconsin) singled to centerfield, scoring junior second baseman Adam Schiff (Evansville, Indiana). Schiff has single with one out before moving into scoring position by stealing second.

The Eagles will begin the final four-game homestand of the spring when they host Oakland City University Thursday, April 25, in a 3 p.m. contest. USI will finish the 2002 home schedule with a three-game series with Saint Joseph's College Saturday and Sunday, April 27-28.
