KENTUCKY WESLEYAN RALLIES TO DEFEAT SOUTHERN INDIANA, 80-77

GREAT LAKES VALLEY CONFERNCE MEN'S TOURNAMENT

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Marshall Sanders made four free throws in the final 11.4 seconds of the game Friday night to lift top-ranked Kentucky Wesleyan College to an 80-77 come-from-behind victory over the University of Southern Indiana in the semifinals of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament in Roberts Stadium.

Southern Indiana held a 77-76 lead with 11.4 seconds left, but Sanders hit a pair of free throws to give Kentucky Wesleyan a 78-77 advantage. The Screaming Eagles had a chance to regain the lead after Billy Harris was fouled with 6.6 seconds remaining, but he missed the front end of the bonus.

Sanders rebounded the miss and was fouled, and he added two more free throws to give the Panthers an 80-77 lead. David Ragland's desperation three-point attempt was off target at the buzzer, allowing Kentucky Wesleyan (27-1) to escape with the victory.

Southern Indiana built a 19-point lead late in the first half by making 54.8 percent of its shots from the field. Kentucky Wesleyan, however, used a 32-14 run to begin the second half and took a 63-62 lead on a Ronald Evans' layup with 8:25 remaining in the game.

Tyrus Boswell led Kentucky Wesleyan with 18 points, and Ronald Evans added 17 points. Cris Brunson led Southern Indiana (22-7) with 22 points.

Kentucky Wesleyan, the defending NCAA Division II national champion, will meet third-seeded Lewis in the GLVC championship at 7 p.m. Saturday. The Panthers have won four straight GLVC Tournament titles.
