Diond're Givens (Mt. Vernon, Indiana) combined to hit six of seven free throws in the final 49 seconds to give USI an 82-78 victory over the University of Indianapolis Thursday night at the Physical Activities Center. USI raises its record to 3-2 overall, 1-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while Indianapolis falls to 3-2 overall, 2-1 GLVC.
With the score tied 74-74, the Screaming Eagles outscored the Greyhounds, 8-4, in the final 1:08 for the victory. Givens started the final run with a three-point play, hitting the bucket and the free throw to give USI a 77-74 lead they would never give up. A close game throughout, the contest featured six ties and six lead changes.
Givens led the Eagles in scoring with 20 points, while Ragland posted 12 points, a team-high seven rebounds, and a team-best five assists. Sophomore guard
Cris Brunson (Evansville, Indiana) got back on track after two sub-par games, scoring 17 points and grabbing five rebounds.
Sophomore forward
Dennis Coutee (Jeffersonville, Indiana) rounded out the double figure scorers for USI with 10 points.
The Eagles will play their final GLVC contest of the month Saturday, December 7, when they host Saint Joseph's College. Game time at the PAC on Saturday is 3:15 p.m.
