The University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team lost a nail-biter to Bellarmine University, 61-59, in Louisville, Kentucky, Monday evening. USI falls to 1-3 overall and 1-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while Bellarmine remains perfect at 4-0 overall, 2-0 GLVC.

Despite 17 turnovers in the first half, the Screaming Eagles played well enough to lead at halftime, 26-24, holding off a late run by Bellarmine. USI once again jumped out to a six point lead early in the second half at 30-24, but the Knights rebounded.

The Knights retook the lead on a 14-0 run early in the second half and was up 38-30. The Eagles used a 14-5 run of their own with 5:54 to play and retake the lead 48-46. From that point it was any teams game.

Bellarmine took the lead for the final time, 60-57, with 1:30 to play. The Knights added a free throw before USI dropped one final bucket in for the final of 61-57.

USI played well defensively, holding a Bellarmine team that averages 94 points a game to just the 61 points. The Eagles also outrebounded the Knight 46-44.

The Eagles were led senior guard/forward Sarah McIntosh (Cabery, Illinois) with 13 points. Senior forward/center Africa Sherrod (Ft. Lauderdale, Florida) posted her third straight double-double with 12 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Junior forward Shajuan Lindsey (Midlothian, Illinois) rounded out the USI double-figure scorers with 10 points.

The Eagles will start a four-game homestand Thursday, December 5, when they host the University of Indianapolis. Game time at the Physical Activities Center is 5:15 p.m.
