University of Southern Indiana men's cross country runner Joey Byrne (Georgetown, Indiana) ran a 10k time of 32:19.4 and finished third at the Great Lakes Regional Championships Saturday morning at Rolling Hills Golf Course in Hudsonville, Michigan. His performance propels him into the NCAA Division II National Championships for the second straight year.

Despite having three runners finish in the top 13 of the field, the Screaming Eagles finished fifth overall as a team. Only two teams, and the top two finishers that were not on a team that advanced, were able to advance out of the men's regional and into the National Championships.

Freshman Eric Fleming (Bensenville, Illinois) and junior Mark Thurner (Hebron, Indiana) finished 11th and 13th, respectively. Fleming finished the 10k race in 32:41.3 while Thurner finished the race in 32:50.6. Byrne, Fleming, and Thurner each earned All-Region honors for their efforts.

Byrne will compete at nationals Saturday, November 23, in Ashland, Ohio.
