The Screaming Eagles made charge after charge at the Lady Lions, but Mars Hill College held off the University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team, 82-66, in the second day of the Eagle Club Classic hosted by Carson-Newman College. USI starts the season 0-2.
For the second game in a row, the Eagles got behind and had to fight their way back. USI and Mars Hill swapped points until the Lady Lions used a 10-2 run to take a 21-12 lead. The Eagles came back to within three at the half, 37-34.
In the second half, the Lady Lions scored the first 10 points and built a 13-point lead before the Eagles were able to get back onto the board. Mars Hill extended the lead to 55-39 before USI made yet another run.
USI pulled back to within four points at 65-61 on a 13-4 run with five minutes to play. Mars Hill, however, stood its ground. The Lady Lions allowed the Eagles to score only five more points in the final minutes, while dropping in 17 points of their own.

Africa Sherrod (Ft. Lauderdale, Florida) led three Eagles in double figures with a double-double, 16 points and 13 rebounds. Junior forward
Shajuan Lindsey (Midlothian, Illinois) followed Sherrod with 12 points, while senior guard/forward
Sarah McIntosh (Cabery, Illinois) dropped in 11 points.
The Eagles start Great Lakes Valley Conference action on Saturday, November 30, at Kentucky Wesleyan College in a 5:15 p.m. game at the Sportscenter. The first home game for the Eagles will not be until Thursday, December 5, in the GLVC home opener against the University of Indianapolis.
