Courtney Reeder (Carbondale, Illinois) recorded three goals to lead the University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team to a 4-0 victory over Brescia University Wednesday night at Strassweg Field in Evansville, Indiana. The Screaming Eagles, who put an end to a two-match loosing streak, improve to 6-6-0 while the Bearcats fall to 3-10-0 on the season.
Reeder placed her first goal in the upper right-hand corner of the net on a direct kick at the 26:20 mark of the match. She used a pass from freshman forward
Brooklyn Gant (Evansville, Indiana) to score her second goal of the match and give the Eagles a 2-0 lead in the contest. The goal came at the 32:45 point in the first-half.
USI's third goal of the contest came off Reeder's foot as well. Reeder used a feed from freshman forward
Alisann Shetler (Evansville, Indiana) to give USI a 3-0 advantage at the 66:24 point of the match.
The Eagles added their fourth goal of the match when Gant put the ball in the back of the net with 15 minutes to go in the contest. Senior midfielder
Jill Hejlek (St. Louis, Missouri) looped the ball toward the sidelines to junior forward
Aisha Earle-Smith (Spring, Texas) and Earle-Smith crossed the ball back to the middle for Gant to stick the ball into the net. Both Hejlek and Earle-Smith were credited with assists on the play.
For the game, USI recorded 20 shots, 10 of which were on goal, while Brescia came away with just six shots in the contest. Senior goalkeeper
Aude de La Salle (Gajoubert, France) recorded four saves and did not give up a goal in 75 minutes of action as she improved to 6-6 on the season
USI will resume Great Lakes Valley Conference play this Sunday, October 13, as it plays host to Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Kickoff is slated for 2:30 p.m. at Strassweg Field.
