USI splits regular season with NKU

The University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team split the regular season series with Northern Kentucky University with a 99-90 victory at the Physical Activities Center Thursday night. USI raises its record to 14-5 overall and 8-4 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while NKU falls to 12-5 overall, 8-3 GLVC.

The Screaming Eagles had five players score in double figures, led by freshman guard Cris Brunson (Evansville, Indiana) with 19 points and senior forward/center Ronnie Griffin (Louisville, Kentucky) with 18 points and 16 rebounds. The 16 rebounds was a career-high for Griffin, who has five double-doubles this season.

Griffin has scored in double figures each of the last seven games, averaging 17.0 ppg, while Brunson has hit double-digits in eight of the last nine contests, averaging 16.1 ppg.

Griffin and Brunson were joined in double figures tonight by sophomore forward Billy Harris (Carbondale, Illinois), who had 13 points senior guard Wes Attebury (Evansville, Indiana), 11 points and junior forward Diond're Givens (Mt. Vernon, Indiana), 11 points.

The Eagles will resume action on Saturday, January 26, when Bellarmine University comes to the PAC for a 7:30 p.m. contest. USI will finish the four-game homestand next week when the host Olivet Nazarene University Thursday, January 31, for a non-conference game and the University of Missouri-St. Louis Saturday, February 2, for a GLVC match-up and Homecoming. Both the ONU and the UMSL games at the PAC will start at 7:30 p.m.
