The University of Southern Indiana men's soccer team fell in double overtime to Saint Joseph's College, 2-1, Sunday afternoon in Rensselaer, Indiana. The Screaming Eagles fall to 3-3-0 overall and 0-2-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while SJC goes to 4-3-1 overall, 1-0-1 GLVC.
The Pumas scored first at 34:06 before USI's senior forward
Ed Pieper (St. Louis, Missouri) scored his fourth goal of the season and the Eagles only tally at 41:42 of the first half to tie the game 1-1. Pieper was assisted on the play by junior midfielder
Nick Ingalls (Greenfield, Indiana), who picked up his first assist and point of the season.
The goal puts Pieper into the team lead in points with 12 on four goals and four assists. He is one ahead of sophomore forward
Matt Settles (Evansville, Indiana) who had 11 points in the first four matches, but has been held scoreless the last two contests.
The Eagles and Pumas played a scoreless second half and first overtime period before SJC got the game winning goal with 6:55 to play in the second overtime. SJC's Richie Delgado scored off the rebound of a shot by Joe Burns.
The USI soccer teams will resume action back at Strassweg Field Friday, September 21, in a GLVC doubleheader with the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. The doubleheader will begin with the women's game at 5 p.m., followed by the men's game at approximately 7:30 p.m.
