The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team fell in the season opener, 2-1, to Northern Michigan University at Strassweg Field Saturday afternoon. USI falls to 0-1-0, while NMU goes to 3-0-0 this year.
NMU scored early and went into halftime with a 1-0 on an unassisted goal by sophomore forward Carolyn Kunas at 8:09.
The Screaming Eagles struck back four minutes into the second half, at 49:45, on a goal by sophomore midfielder
Darlene Dippel (Evansville, Indiana) to tie the score 1-1. Dippel scored off assist from senior forward Kristin Light (St. Louis, Missouri), who crossed the ball in from the right side of the north goal.
NMU came back with the game winner three minutes later at 52:46 on a goal by sophomore forward April Giescke off a pass from Kunas.
The Eagles will try to get back on track Monday, September 3, when they play Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in a 1 p.m. match. Following Monday's action, USI will return to Strassweg Field to play Brescia University in a men's and women's doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m.
