The University of Southern Indiana men's soccer team notched another preseason win under its belt with a 5-4 win over St. Louis Community College-Forest Park this afternoon in St. Louis, Missouri.
USI jumped out to a 3-1 lead by halftime on two goals by sophomore forward
Matt Settles (Evansville, Indiana) and another by sophomore
Scott Henderson (Evansville, Indiana). Settles scored his first goal at the three-minute mark off an assist by junior mid-fielder
Nick Ingalls (Greenfield, Indiana) and his at seven minutes off a pass from sophomore midfielder
Steve Hendrickson (Granite City, Illinois).
Henderson finished the scoring in the first half with an unassisted goal at 22 minutes.
The second half saw Forest Park claw back into the match only to see the Screaming Eagles respond with tallies to close the door. After the Highlanders narrowed the margin to 3-2, Ingalls made the score 4-2 with a goal at the 65-minute mark.
The Highlanders bounced back to tie the score at 4-4, before Henderson scored the game-winner on a penalty kick with 15 minutes to play.
USI finishes the exhibition season with a 2-0 record, led by the four goals off the foot of Settles. The Eagles will open the regular season Wednesday, August 29, against Rockhurst College. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Strassweg Field.
