The University of Southern Indiana volleyball team swept the season series with Bellarmine University by winning on the road, 3-0, Friday evening in Louisville, Kentucky. USI raises its record to 18-8 overall, 9-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while Bellarmine falls to 7-19 for the fall, 1-10 GLVC.
The victory puts USI just two victories away from reaching 20 wins in two consecutive seasons for the first time since 1980-81. The win also was the fifth straight for the squad and the eighth in nine tries.
Junior outside hitter
Shannon Wells (Merrillville, Indiana) led the Screaming Eagles with 18 kills, three aces, and 10 digs. She was followed by senior middle blocker
Leah Mercer (Evansville, Indiana), who also reached double-digits with 10 kills.
The Eagles will resume GLVC play Saturday, October 27, when they travel to Kentucky Wesleyan College for a 1 p.m. match. USI, which is ranked fifth in the Great Lakes Region, will finish the regular season and the conference schedule on the road next weekend at Northern Kentucky University Friday, November 2, and the University of Indianapolis Saturday, November 3.
