The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team broke a three-match losing streak and kept its hope alive for a GLVC playoff berth with a 1-0 victory over Bellarmine University Friday night at Strassweg Field. USI raises its record 4-10-0 overall, 2-6-0 GLVC, while Bellarmine falls to 7-7-1 overall, 1-6-1 GLVC.
USI junior midfielder
Megan Fitzler (Maryland Heights, Missouri) passed the ball to sophomore midfielder
Aisha Earle-Smith (Spring, Texas) for the game-winning goal at 81:28 in the second half. The goal was the third of the season for Earle-Smith, while the assist was the first of the fall for Fitzler.
Junior goalkeeper
Aude de La Salle (France) picked up her second shutout of the season for the Eagles, facing nine shots and making two saves. The shutout was the third of the year for USI as a team.
The Eagles will have one day to get ready for the number one ranked Northern Kentucky University Norse, who come to Evansville for USI's Senior Day on Sunday, October 21. The USI-NKU match at Strassweg Field will begin at noon. USI will finish the GLVC schedule at home with the reschedule match with Kentucky Wesleyan College on Wednesday, October 24. Match time with KWC is 5 p.m.
USI still has a shot to make the GLVC Tournament, but must get at least a win and a tie in the final two matches. Also Quincy University, which plays the University of Indianapolis later tonight, must go winless in its final two matches.
