USI Baseball Field

In nearly 40 years of baseball, the University of Southern Indiana Baseball Field has seen great players and great games.

The USI Baseball Field became the permanent home of the Screaming Eagles in 1974 and stands as one of the finest fields in southern Indiana. The facility, located on the USI campus, has a concession stand, media accommodations in the press box, seating for approximately 1200 fans, restrooms, a picnic area, and The Bent Twig Outdoor Education Center down the left field and right field lines.

The field measures 355 ft. down the lines, 375 ft. to the power alleys, and 380 ft. to dead center field. Behind the fence is a beautiful tree-line that provides a excellent hitting background.

A computerized-underground sprinkler system helps maintain the manicured natural playing surface. the dirt area is a special blend of brick-dust, complemented by a tarp which covers the entire infield. The tarp enables the Eagles to play and practice when most teams in the midwest are still indoors.

The lights, a new nine-inning scoreboard, and message board were added and updated in 2008. The scoreboard has high visibility with inning-by-inning scoring and current runs, hits, and errors displayed, while the message board carries information about the team and its sponsors.

During the summer, the field is home to the Funkhouser American Legion team. The diamond also was the practice facility for stars such as Madonna, during the making of the movie "A League of Their Own."
